- Prepare visual aid or write on the board the definitions of the words urbanization, overload, industrialization, agricultural, switch off, unemployment
- Divides the class into two teams, A and B. Then have them stand in front of the board. Read the definitions and ask them to slap the correct word. For weak ss we can say the definitions in Vietnamese.
Play the game SLAP THE BOARD

B. KNOWLEDGE FORMATION: Look at the conversation in GETTING STARTED again. Match the words in the conversation with appropriate definitions. (4 ms)

Activity 1. What are the similarities and differences between the urbanisation in Bangkok and that in Ha Noi? (5 ms)

To provide an opportunity for sts to personalize the topic through discussion
- Explain to Ss the task: compare the similarities and differences between the urbanisation in Bangkok and Hanoi
- Discuss the questions in groups of four.
- Encourage all students to answer the question, supporting their decision with clearly formulated reasons why they would not migrate to a city like Bangkok. Ask individual students to present their opinions to the class. Give appropriate feedback whenever needed. However, delayed feedback would be more suitable in this teaching context since it would be better not to interrupt sts’ presentations. Encourages the rest of the class to comment on the presenters’ ideas and presentation skills.
Suggested answer:
- The similarities between the urbanisation in BangKok and that in Ha Noi are: play an important role in country, have brought about economics, social and cultural benefits; the drawbacks include the growth of slums, social issues such as drugs and crime, traffic congestion, and environmental pollution.
