Society has changed in many ways (41)the introduction of computers, and people’s lives at home and at the office have been affected. Most people are working for fewer hours per week than they (42).to, and manufacturers and advertising agencies are becoming much more interested in how people spend this extra leisure time. One recent report stated that,(43) ..the number of hobbies had not increased, each hobby had become more specialized.
A second finding is that nowadays, many managers would rather (44) time with their families than stay late in the office everyday. Home life is seen to be just as important as working. Some companies now (45)..managers take their annual holidays even if they don’t want to, because this leads to such an improvement in their performance if they have some rest.
(46)..these changes, some people are working harder than ever before. The standard of exams is getting higher, and increased competition is (47)it harder to get into university than it was 20 years (48). Schoolchildren and students are now having to work (49)hard that in many cases they work longer hours (50)their parents.

Smallpox was the first widespread disease to be eliminated by human intervention. In May, 1966, the World Health Organization (WHO), an agency of The United Nations, was authorized to initiate a global campaign to eradicate smallpox. The goal was to eliminate the disease in one decade. At the time, the disease posed a serious threat to people in more than thirty nations. Because similar projects for malaria and yellow fever had failed, few believed that smallpox could actually be eradicated but eleven years after the initial organization of the campaign, no cases were reported in the field.
The strategy was not only to provide mass vaccinations but also to isolate patients with active smallpox in order to contain the spread of the disease and to break the chain of human transmission. Rewards for reporting smallpox assisted in motivating removed from contacts with others and treated. At the same time, the entire village where the victim had lived was vaccinated.
By April of 1978, WHO officials announced that they had isolated the last known case of the disease but health workers continued to search for new cases for two additional years to be completely sure. In May, 1980, a formal statement was made to the global community. Today smallpox is no longer a threat to humanity. Routine vaccinations have been stopped worldwide.
